Accessories To Make Your Home Removal In Yorkshire Easier
13th August, 2014
When you plan a home removal in Yorkshire you’ll no doubt have a list of what you need for your first night and beyond. Large items such as beds and the fridge will probably be the top of the list.
There are, however, smaller accessories that you can usually buy on a weekly shop that you may not have thought of.
Home Removal in Yorkshire Accessories
We’ve put together a list to ensure you have everything you need to make your first week stress free.
Light bulbs
It’s amazing how many people forget that their new home needs light bulbs. Even if it had light bulbs when you looked around the chances are some will blow within the first week. The last occupants, if they’ve splurged on energy saving light bulbs, may have also taken them with them. As part of their inventory, students are often required to remove lightbulbs from their accommodation while an electrician conducts safety checks in between moves.
Your new home may also have different light fittings to your old, especially in the bathroom, so it’s always a good idea to check.
Curtain Poles
Even if your new home has curtain tracks there’s no guarantee that these will be suitable for your curtains. You could have ring top curtains or heavy curtains that will make a mess of the wall within seconds. Investigate as to which curtain hooks you need too, as it can be quite tiresome if you can’t have the privacy of curtains at the window for the first few days.
Hooks and Nails
For years you’ll have enjoyed your ultra-organised old house that had every picture in place and hooks for all your coats. Now you’ve moved somewhere new and there’s nowhere to hang anything!
Picture hooks and brass hooks can tidy a room within minutes. They can take your favourite pictures off the floor and onto the walls leaving you much needed space to unpack. It doesn’t matter if you rearrange later, you’ll be thankful for the extra space.
Locks
You may have had locks on your bathroom door at your old house but that doesn’t guarantee you’ll have locks here. It’s always a good idea to invest in a few padlocks and sliding locks for doors, sheds and cupboards. They can even come in handy if you find a door doesn’t close properly or for keeping children out of the master bedroom while you work out privacy rules!
Wall Fixings
There are many wall fixings you may have taken advantage of in your old home such as:
- Kitchen roll holders
- Toilet Roll Holders
- Towel Rails
- Tea Towel Holders
Without them in your new home you’ll soon have cluttered surfaces. While you’re shopping for these accessories ensure you have the essentials such as loo roll too, it’s amazing how many people forget this when moving home in York!
Extension Leads
In your old home your plug sockets may have been perfectly placed for all your items. Unless you’re in luck, there will be some sockets that could be a little closer.
For instance, for bedside lights or even for charging your kindle while you are reading it, you may need an extension lead. These luckily are relatively cheap, you can even pick them up in the pound shop. It’s always best to be prepared and it makes short work of getting the TV and appliances set up and ready, which is a godsend if you have children moving with you!
Pipes
There’s always some confusion when we do York removals if the waste and water pipes for dishwashers and washing machines should be taken or left for the next occupants. To reduce the chance of being without, check with the previous residents and see what they plan to do. They can be picked up cheaply too. Also you may need an extra pipe for example if your washing machine has an option for a hot feed.
If you’ve recently had removals in York and you have any tips to add please leave them in the comments below. We always strive to bring the best information to everyone moving home no matter if they’re moving home in York or further afield.
